The Twelve Days of Tech-mas
With the time of giving upon us, we submit the following dozen gadgets to help your quest for the coolest gift for that special geek who has owned everything you can think of and already sold it on eBay.
Listed by price, some items may not make it in time for Christmas (namely, the spa you have to order from Eastern Europe.) But considering how cool they are, we think people will understand.
iPod shuffle
Everybody that doesn't already own one will presumably be getting their iPod for Christmas (for many, it will be their second.) It's smaller (again) and holds more (again). And once again Apple will engrave it free. $79
Radar golf system
Do you cringe every time your golf partner shanks one of the high-priced balls you bought him/her for Christmas into the woods? Radar golf's inserted tracking chip will let your partner track every one of those bad shots down (whether he/she wants to or not) with a handheld sensor. Now if they can just make a decent ball that floats. $200
Delphi SKYFi3 XM radio receiver
The handheld satellite radio receiver by Delphi not only picks up XM radio, but allows you to record it on the fly. $229
Complete Wireless Weather Station
Hate leaving the house underdressed? Check out this solar-powered, full-featured weather station for the outdoorsman, naturist, or storm nerd. The Oregon Scientific weather station tells you everything from the temperature to how much rain fell on your tomato plants yesterday afternoon. $300
Shure E4c Headphones
The number one complaint about MP3 players is sound quality. You can go a long way to improve that by chucking the cheap earbuds included with most players and picking up these noise isolating, form-fitted headphones. $319
Sanyo HD Camera
Record those tedious home movies without tapes with the Sanyo hard drive camcorder. Everything is recorded onboard the camera then uploaded into your computer for editing – like that happens. $500-$700
LG portfolio refrigerator
Without kids around the house to cover the refrigerator in finger paintings the kitchen can get awfully drab. The LG portfolio series of refrigerators changes that, finally allowing interior designers to take over your cooking space, too. $1,499-$2,899
Winepod
Got a wine-lover on your gift list? You can up the ante by giving them their own winemaking gadget. The winepod handles the crushing, straining and fermenting for you, and it will even walk the greenest grape nut through the process with a slick computer interface. All your loved one needs to do is get the grapes. $2,000
Costco Grill-n-Chill
The time honored art of tailgating meets modern tech convenience with the Chill n' Grill, combining an electric cooler, gas grill and AM/FM radio/CD player into one package that can be easily towed behind an SUV. $3,000-$4,000
Keyton Dune Massage Chair
Keyton has created not only the ultimate massage chair but also one you can put out with the rest of your furniture without shame. The Dune offers eight different variations of ten different styles of massage. $7,500
Zoltar personal fortune teller
You can be Tom Hanks and relive the seminal scenes in "Big" with your own Zoltar fortune teller. All you need now is a giant keyboard and a girlfriend as hot as Elizabeth Perkins! $9,000
Neo Qi home spa
Pamper your people this Christmas with the new Elegance home spa cocoon by Neo Qi. It may look like something out of "Saturn 3," but when you can choose between bubble bath, steam or infrared sauna, who cares? $25,000 (Imported from Estonia)
